Having been retrenched and wanting to be active in a business, I located a product range that could be marketed through the Internet. And that's where my ignorance to Internet trading was first shown up. I didn't know about web hosting or even that one had to pay to have a website on the Internet!!Through a line of contacts, I was recommended to seek out DiAl Design, who specialised in Webpage building and search engine optimisation plus offering a complete Internet Service package. Our hostel opened in July 2000 and as we attract a potential customer base
from around Australia and the world it was always our intention to have a
website. At first we had our friend (a university student), build a website for
us which looked okay but was almost useless when it came to search engine
positioning. What was the point of having a website that nobody could find
unless they knew the specific address?The backpacker industry is very very competitive, ranging from small to very large operators all wanting to be at the top of the search engine list. With over 70 backpacker hostels in Sydney and a growing array of new specialised travel & accommodation websites competing for backpacker travellers, in Australia & worldwide, I thought it would be near impossible to get a look in on the top pages of the search results. We decided to obtain quotations from various web design & marketing companies and were pleased that Dial Design produced the best price and also had a provable track record for high rankings across the important search engines. The website has not only produced lots of bookings for us over the years, but has been an invalueable marketing tool in supplying detailed information to all our guests.
